Smart Turbidity Sensor for Efficient Healthy Aquaculture
2025-06-04
In modern aquaculture, water quality is directly related to the growth rate, health and overall profitability of aquatic animals. Among various water quality parameters, turbidity is a key indicator of water cleanliness and plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance in aquaculture environments.

To meet the needs of aquaculture monitoring, Firstrate smart turbidity sensor, which is capable of real-time and accurate online monitoring of water turbidity. The sensor is based on the principle of scattered light turbidity measurement. When a beam of light is projected into a water sample, suspended particles cause the light to scatter. The turbidity of the sample is calculated by measuring the intensity of the scattered light at an angle of 90 degrees to the incident light and comparing it to an internal calibration value. After linear processing, the final value is output.

Firstrate smart turbidity sensor supports an RS-485 interface with Modbus-RTU communication protocol and offers a 4–20 mA analog output, making it compatible with most automated control systems. With an IP68 protection rating and a stainless steel housing, the sensor offers excellent waterproof and corrosion resistance, allowing it to operate stably in submerged and harsh environments, unaffected by high humidity, silt, or other challenging conditions.
Compact and flexible in design, the turbidity sensor can be installed using either flow-through or immersion methods, depending on the actual application. It is suitable for ponds, tanks, recirculating aquaculture systems, and various other aquaculture scenarios. The standard measurement range is 0–100 NTU (customizable), and personalized configurations can be provided to meet the specific turbidity monitoring needs of different farming models.

As a key component of intelligent water quality monitoring, the smart turbidity sensor is more than just a hardware device—it is an effective tool for advancing intelligent aquaculture. It enables fish farmers to fully understand the water environment, reduce labor costs, and enhance operational efficiency. This makes it a critical step toward creating a healthier, more controlled ecosystem and achieving truly smart aquaculture.
